I always have a great time in Oklahoma! Even if it was a relentless 105 degrees. It’s just so much fun spending time with Mimi!
We always have such a great time together! We told stories and visited and had lots of fun. Mimi even taught me how to crochet squares for an afghan she’s been working on.
She had even made this cute little hat…
..for Alie! Now how cute is that? I’ll have to see if I can talk Alie into posing for a photo or two sometime soon. ;)
While we were in Oklahoma we took a little day trip out to McAlester to visit family and see some important places from the old family tree. It was the hottest day of our trip, but armed with cherry limeades from Braums we somehow managed to survive the scorching temperatures. It also helped that I remembered it was probably even hotter in Egypt.
We realized we really couldn’t leave without stopping for Italian food, so we went to Rosanna’s.
Krebs has the best Italian food in the world. And the best salad. And the best bread. And cheese. Gosh, it’s all so good.
The next day, Mimi took us out to a farmer’s market in Bixby. They had incredible produce, jams, sauces, and of course a record-setting watermelon.
We stocked up on fresh tomatoes, onions, garlic, sweet bell peppers, corn on the cob, and got ourselves a watermelon, and when we got back to Mimi’s place we had a vegetarian feast. I’m not sure if there is anything quite as wonderful as a fresh tomato, especially one you don’t have to soak in vinegar because you live in Egypt and that’s just what you have to do. They were great!
Brandon and I roasted the rest of the tomatoes for pizza. With the oven cranked up as hot as possible, it got so hot I forgot to take any pictures. But I can assure you that the pizza was delicious!
On our last morning in Oklahoma, we went out for a wonderful breakfast with Mimi and some of her friends. We had a great time visiting and sharing stories. It was hard to get back on the road. I love spending time with my Mimi and I miss her already!
Sounds like fun! I can’t wait to see the ‘cat in the hat’. Please pose for us Alie!
Looks like a great visit!!! I love the prize winning watermelon and the cute photo of you and Mimi! : )
